Frequently Asked Questions
Extended Release, or Increased Time Under Curve (T.U.C.), is a magic mushroom macrodose supplement designed for a gentle and extended experience. It combines a higher dose of Psilocybe cubensis with other natural ingredients to create a more prolonged, manageable, and enjoyable journey without the intensity of a full trip.
The key ingredients in Extended Release include Organic Psilocybe Cubensis, Organic Cocoa, Naturally-derived Vitamin C, Organic Milk Thistle, and Organic Matcha.
Extended Release works by combining Psilocybe Cubensis with other ingredients that enhance and prolong the effects of psilocybin, such as Organic Cocoa and Naturally-derived Vitamin C. Milk Thistle supports liver health, and Matcha promotes zen energy, mental stamina, and calm alertness.
Benefits of taking Extended Release include a gentle and extended macrodose journey, mood elevation, creativity enhancement, mental stamina, focus, and support for overall brain health and well-being. Research has shown that psilocybin, the active ingredient in Psilocybe cubensis, can have positive effects on mood disorders, anxiety, and PTSD (Carhart-Harris et al., 2016; Ross et al., 2016). Additionally, the combination of other natural ingredients like Organic Cocoa, Naturally-derived Vitamin C, Organic Milk Thistle, and Organic Arabica Coffee Bean provides a synergistic effect, enhancing and prolonging the benefits of psilocybin.
Extended Release may help with anxiety by activating serotonin receptors, leading to mood elevation, and by providing a gentle, manageable experience that reduces the risk of overwhelming feelings. Studies have demonstrated that psilocybin can reduce anxiety symptoms and improve overall mental health in patients with life-threatening illnesses (Ross et al., 2016). The combination of Organic Cocoa and Arabica Coffee Bean in Extended Release may also provide additional mood-enhancing and calming effects, further supporting anxiety relief.
Extended Release may help with depression by activating serotonin receptors and promoting the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Research has shown that psilocybin has the potential to reduce symptoms of depression by improving mood, reducing negative thoughts, and enhancing overall well-being (Carhart-Harris et al., 2016). The addition of Organic Cocoa, which is rich in mood-enhancing compounds, and Naturally-derived Vitamin C, which potentiates the effects of psilocybin, can further support depression relief.
Extended Release may help with PTSD by increasing global functional brain connectivity, promoting emotional processing, and facilitating psychological flexibility. Research has shown that psilocybin can modulate neural circuits involved in emotion regulation and may help individuals with PTSD process traumatic memories more effectively (Carhart-Harris et al., 2012). The addition of Organic Cocoa, which contains mood-boosting compounds, and Naturally-derived Vitamin C, which enhances the effects of psilocybin, can further support the healing process for individuals with PTSD.
Extended Release is formulated with natural ingredients and is generally considered safe. However, as with any supplement, it's important to consult a healthcare professional before use, especially if you have a pre-existing medical condition.
You can take Extended Release as is, by breaking them open and Lemon Teking their contents, or advised by your healthcare provider. Lemon Teking helps to intensify the trip and reduce the nausea, which you can learn more about in our guide to Lemon Teking.
The quick and dirty:
- 0-0.25g: A microdose; very subtle psychedelic effects; may experience mood enhancement, reduced anxiety, improved mental alertness and improve energy levels.
- 0.25-0.5g: A step up; more pronounced psychedelic effects; may experience altered coordination and motor control, altered vision and mood, increased energy, the giggles, revelatory thoughts, ideas, and pattern recognition.
- 0.5-1g: A psychoactive experience; pronounced and obvious psychedelic effects; may experience altered vision, emotions, and mood, could be a significant alteration of motor control, impaired coordination, super-human-music-making abilities, absurd humour, and a desire to engage oneself in artistic endeavours.
- 1g+: Everything above 1g is a bonafide psychedelic experience. 7g is Terrence Mckenna’s heroic dose. From here on in, anything is possible.
We recommend starting with smaller doses to assess your tolerance and adjust as needed.
The onset of effects varies by individual, but most users report feeling the benefits within 30 minutes to an hour after ingestion. To ensure optimal results, take Extended Release on an empty stomach or with a light meal.
We recommend reading our guide on How to Prepare for a Magic Mushroom Trip for optimal results.
Before combining Extended Release with other supplements or medications, consult your healthcare professional to ensure that no interactions may occur. This is particularly important if you are taking medications for mental health conditions, as interactions could affect the effectiveness of your medications. However, clinical trials indicate that psilocybin may be as or more effective than conventional medications at treating mental health conditions for the long-term, without the need for daily or consistent dosing. We recommend you discuss your options with a healthcare professional, particularly one that has received training with psychedelics or is well-versed on their effects.
Some users may experience mild side effects when consuming psilocybin mushrooms, such as dizziness, nausea, or increased heart rate. If you have concerns about potential side effects, consult a healthcare professional before using Extended Release. To minimize potential side effects, start with a smaller dose and adjust as needed.
Extended Release is specifically formulated as a macrodose supplement to provide a more pronounced experience, though many of our customers do report using it for their microdosing regimen.
Alternatively, consider using one of our microdose Stacks, which are specifically designed for a fine-tuned microdosing experience. They are available in 3 blends: Brain Stack, Energy Stack, and Vitality Stack.
If you are using Extended Release to macrodose, it's important to wait at least 1 week between magic mushroom macrodoses to avoid building a tolerance. If you are microdosing, stop microdosing at least 1 week before you intend on macrodosing, and wait at least one more week after your macrodose before microdosing again.
If you are microdosing with Extended Release, we recommend following a microdosing protocol. We cover 7 different protocols in this article here.
Other than that, the frequency of use depends on your goals and preferences. Always follow the recommended dosage guidelines and consult a healthcare professional for personalized guidance. You may prefer occasional use for special events or experiences, or you may choose to incorporate Extended Release more regularly into your routine for therapeutic purposes. It's essential to listen to your body and adjust usage patterns accordingly.
Regular use of psychedelics, including Extended Release, can lead to a development of tolerance. It is recommended to space out usage and follow recommended dosage guidelines to avoid building a tolerance.

When considering taking Extended Release while on antidepressants, it's essential to understand the potential risks and benefits. Serotonin Syndrome (SS) is a concern when combining drugs that increase serotonin levels, such as SSRIs and psilocybin. However, Kelan Thomas, Associate Professor at Touro University California College of Pharmacy, says that the risk of SS with psilocybin is low due to its psychedelic partial agonist properties at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor.
Dr. Erica Zelfand, a licensed family doctor and psychedelic facilitator, has worked with patients taking psilocybin while on antidepressants. She believes there isn't enough scientific evidence to support asking patients to discontinue their antidepressants before using psilocybin. She notes that "severe cases of serotonin toxicity with psilocybin are rare."
A recent study showed that SSRIs combined with psilocybin are safe, and SSRIs may even have a protective effect against negative drug effects like anxiety, nausea, headache, and fatigue. The study concluded that "stopping escitalopram treatment before psilocybin administration may not be warranted."
Some people on SSRIs report reduced effects of psilocybin. Dr. Zelfand found that people using SSRIs long-term might need 30-50% higher doses of psilocybin. However, Dr. Matthias Liechti, the Principal Investigator of the escitalopram study, did not see an impact on psilocybin's effects in the group taking the SSRI.
It's important to remember that experiences can vary among individuals. If you're considering taking Extended Release while on antidepressants, consult a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.
The best way to store magic mushrooms is to keep them in an air-tight container that minimizes their exposure to oxygen, heat, UV light, and bacterial or fungal spores. That's why we use amber glass jars, which we cover in more detail below.
Most experts recommend the jar and cupboard method over common practices like storing mushrooms in the freezer. This method can preserve dried mushrooms for at least a year if you store them in a dark, dry, cool place, like a cupboard.
We use amber containers for a few reasons:
- Glass comes from nature: Glass is made from naturally occurring ingredients abundant in nature. The transformation of these ingredients results in one sole material. No other material or chemical layers are needed to complete it.
- They protect light-sensitive products: One of the main benefits of using amber glass is that it provides the best protection against UV light, blue light, and other light wavelengths under the 450-nanometer range. UV rays can cause what is known as photooxidation, which reduces the efficacy of the ingredients by breaking them down.
- They provide a safer interaction: This means that there won’t be any chemical interactions between the glass and product inside, unlike plastic which is latent with chemicals that break down fairly easily and interact with the stored product.
- They are recyclable and can be reused: Not only is glass a safe packaging for food, it is also environmentally sustainable! Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled endlessly with no loss in quality or purity. Glass recycling is a closed loop system, creating no additional waste or by-products.
